Questions:

1. Whose death (family, friend, national/public figure) has affected you most? Why?

2. Why did darkness cover the land from about noon until 3 PM?

  • There was probably an eclipse.
  • The forces of evil were at the height of their power.
  • God was dealing with the darkness of sin.
  • God was so upset He didn’t want anyone to see these events.
  • God was mad at the world.

3. What is so significant about the temple curtain (which shielded the Most Holy Place) being torn in two?

  • The barrier between God and us was removed.
  • Everyone can approach God directly now.
  • There’s no more need for mystery.
  • There’s no more need for blood sacrifices.
  • Fellowship between God and people has been restored.

4. What do you think the Roman centurion in charge of the crucifixion, who gave God praise, did the next day?

  • tried to forget all about this
  • figured he had let his fears and emotions get the best of him
  • searched out Jesus’ followers to find out more about Jesus
  • asked God to forgive him for his role in Jesus’ death

5. What caused those witnessing the crucifixion (other than Jesus’ followers) to leave the cross beating their breasts?
